President Donald Trump Plans to Dismiss Over 1,000 Federal Officials

President Donald Trump has announced the dismissal of four senior officials appointed by his predecessor, Joe Biden, and stated that more than 1,000 additional appointees will face termination.

"The Presidential Personnel Office is actively identifying and removing over 1,000 individuals appointed by the previous administration. These individuals are not aligned with our vision to 'Make America Great Again,'" President Trump wrote on Truth Social early on January 21, less than 24 hours after taking the oath of office.

The president named four individuals who have already been dismissed: Jose Andres, co-chair of the President’s Council on Fitness, Sports, and Nutrition; former General Mark Milley, a member of the National Infrastructure Advisory Council; Brian Hook from the Wilson Center; and Keisha Lance Bottoms from the President’s Export Council.

"This is the official notice of termination for these four individuals. More announcements will follow shortly," the post read, ending with Trump's signature catchphrase, "You’re fired," made famous during his time as host of the reality TV show The Apprentice.

A Shake-Up in Federal Agencies

If President Trump follows through on his campaign promises to downsize the federal bureaucracy and improve government efficiency, many federal agencies could face significant personnel changes, with some potentially being dissolved entirely.

Trump has also ordered federal employees to return to a five-day, in-office workweek and has moved to roll back job protections that shield civil servants from dismissal. These measures are part of a broader effort to streamline federal operations.

Replacing the Bureaucracy

Allies of President Trump have said that these decisions will allow him to replace long-serving federal employees with individuals more aligned with his administration’s goals.

Shortly after assuming office, Trump rescinded 78 executive orders signed by former President Biden and issued approximately 200 directives, including an order establishing a new advisory group called the Government Efficiency Board (DOGE).

The advisory board, chaired by billionaire Elon Musk, is tasked with providing recommendations on system reform, regulation cuts, expenditure reduction, and restructuring federal agencies.

"This is about restoring efficiency and effectiveness to the federal government," President Trump said.
