Trump Frustrated as Russia Continues Bombing Ukraine Amid Ceasefire Talks
President Donald Trump has expressed frustration over Russia’s continued bombing of Ukraine, even as his administration works to broker a ceasefire agreement to end the conflict.
"I'm unhappy with what's happening," Trump told reporters at the White House on April 7, accusing Russia of "relentlessly bombing" Ukrainian cities.
"We’re in talks with both Russia and Ukraine. We're getting closer to a deal, but I’m not pleased with all the bombing that’s taken place over the past week — or before that. It’s horrible," he added.
Back in March, NBC reported that Trump was “very angry” with Russian President Vladimir Putin after the Kremlin questioned Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s legitimacy, with Trump reportedly believing the remarks “derailed” progress toward peace.
Trump’s latest comments came just hours after the Kremlin reiterated its support for a ceasefire in Ukraine but said “questions remain” about how to implement such a deal — pushing back against criticism from the U.S. and Europe that Russia is simply stalling for time.
Moscow has not yet responded to Trump’s remarks.
On April 4, a missile — believed to be Russian — struck a residential area near a playground in Kryvyi Rih, the hometown of President Zelensky in Ukraine’s central Dnipro region. Local officials say the strike killed 18 people, including nine children, and injured at least 72 more. It was one of the deadliest attacks on Ukrainian civilians in recent weeks.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed it had targeted a gathering of Ukrainian military commanders and Western advisors in the city.
On April 6, Ukraine’s Air Force Command reported that Russia launched a wave of missiles and kamikaze drones in a coordinated strike — the first of its kind since the U.S. announced last month that it was mediating talks on two separate ceasefire proposals with both Kyiv and Moscow.
Russia has also accused Ukraine of continuing attacks on its energy infrastructure, despite agreeing to a U.S.-brokered deal on March 18 to halt strikes on each other’s energy systems.
