Trump Highlights Border Security, Tariffs as Top Achievements in First 100 Days

In an exclusive interview with Fox News on April 14, President Donald Trump said his proudest accomplishments during the first 100 days of his second term are restoring what he called a “perfect border” and launching a tough tariff strategy to defend U.S. economic interests.

“Now everyone can see it clearly — our border has been restored 100%. Truly 100%. It was perfect before, and now it’s even better,” Trump told host Rachel Campos-Duffy, referring to his aggressive approach to immigration enforcement.

Trump emphasized that his administration is not against immigration, but stressed that anyone entering the U.S. must do so legally. “Everyone agrees on that,” he said.

Securing the southern border was a key promise during Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign. On his first day back in office, January 20, he signed an executive order declaring a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border and deployed military personnel to support law enforcement in stopping illegal crossings.

According to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), the number of illegal border crossings has dropped sharply in recent months. The agency reported that total apprehensions in March were lower than in just the first two days of the same month, marking the second consecutive month of record-low figures.

The U.S.-Mexico border stretches roughly 2,000 miles, with about 1,400 miles running through Texas. On April 11, Trump issued a directive to the Departments of the Interior, Homeland Security, Defense, and Agriculture, authorizing the U.S. military to assume full control over federal lands along the border.

This order clears the way for the government to treat public lands near the border as military zones. Any unauthorized crossing into these areas will be treated as trespassing on military property. Migrants caught by U.S. troops will be held on site until DHS agents arrive to process and deport them.

In addition to immigration policy, Trump also pointed to his administration’s tariff campaign as a major success.

“We’re bringing in hundreds of billions of dollars from tariffs on countries that have taken advantage of America for decades. That ends now,” he said.

Earlier this month, the Trump administration unveiled a sweeping retaliatory tariff plan targeting most U.S. trading partners. Days later, the White House announced a 90-day pause on tariffs for countries willing to renegotiate trade deals.

Trump also expressed optimism about cooperation with Congress, touting his “big, beautiful” budget proposal aimed at stimulating the U.S. economy through tax cuts and deregulation.
