British Prime Minister Keir Starmer made an unannounced visit to Kyiv today to sign a groundbreaking 100-year partnership agreement aimed at strengthening security cooperation between the United Kingdom and Ukraine.

The Prime Minister's office announced that the agreement will solidify the UK's commitment to Ukraine's security and economic resilience. During his visit, Starmer is also scheduled to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"We are more united than ever, and this partnership will elevate our friendship to unprecedented heights," Starmer said. The "Century Partnership" is expected to enhance military cooperation, bolster maritime security, and reinforce the UK’s role as a key partner in Ukraine’s energy, critical minerals, and steel production sectors.

Discussions will also include potential security guarantees from the UK, including the possibility of deploying British troops as part of a peacekeeping force in Ukraine once the conflict concludes.

The agreement, along with a political declaration, will be presented to the UK Parliament in the coming weeks. Specific details of the pact have not yet been disclosed.

President Zelensky indicated earlier that he plans to discuss the deployment of Western forces in Ukraine to monitor a potential ceasefire, following a proposal made by French President Emmanuel Macron.

Starmer’s visit comes at a critical moment as Ukraine faces mounting challenges on the battlefield. Fighting has intensified as both Russia and Ukraine seek to gain the upper hand ahead of U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration, which is expected to bring renewed efforts toward brokering a ceasefire.
