White House Advisor: U.S. Nearing Trade Deals With Over 10 Countries

The United States is close to finalizing trade agreements with more than 10 countries, according to a top White House economic advisor.

“There are over 10 deals on the table that are very strong, very promising for America,” National Economic Council Director Kevin Hassett said in an interview with ABC on April 14. “U.S. Trade Representative Jameson Greer, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, along with our trade advisors and President Donald Trump, are reviewing whether these deals meet our standards.”

Hassett shared similar remarks in a separate interview with Fox Business, noting that the administration is still weighing how to roll out the agreements — whether individually or as a comprehensive package.

“The president will decide when and how many to announce once he’s confident in the terms,” Hassett said. “What I can say is that negotiations have made remarkable progress.”

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent offered a more cautious perspective during an appearance on Bloomberg TV, saying only that the U.S. is engaged in “intense negotiations.”

“Things are moving in an orderly fashion, and in the end, the president will secure agreements, especially with our key trade partners,” Bessent said.

When asked how many deals the U.S. expects to finalize before current tariff suspensions expire, Bessent declined to give a number. He noted that not all agreements may be traditional trade deals — some could be framework agreements that pave the way for future talks.

“Tariffs are actually the easy part,” Bessent explained. “If a country sets high tariffs, we can just ask for adjustments. But non-tariff barriers are more complex, harder to detect, and they take longer to resolve.”
