Zelensky Invites Trump to Visit Ukraine: “See It for Yourself”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has invited President Donald Trump to visit Ukraine, urging him to witness the realities of the war before making decisions that could shape the course of the conflict with Russia.

“We want him to come and see,” Zelensky told CBS News on April 13. “He thinks he understands what’s going on—we respect that. But please, before any decisions or negotiations, come and see the situation firsthand.”

Zelensky said such a visit would give Trump a clearer picture of the toll Russia’s invasion has taken on Ukraine.

“We’re not going to prepare anything in advance. This isn’t a theater—we’re not staging anything in the streets or city squares,” Zelensky said. “He can go wherever he wants. Any city that’s been attacked.”

The White House has not commented on the invitation.

Zelensky’s offer comes just weeks after a tense exchange at the White House in February involving Trump, Zelensky, and Vice President JD Vance. During that encounter, Vance accused the Ukrainian president of organizing “propaganda tours” for foreign leaders to win support for Kyiv’s war effort.

Zelensky appeared visibly frustrated during the exchange, crossing his arms and stating that Americans hadn’t truly felt the war’s impact yet because they are “protected by a beautiful ocean”—but warned they may eventually feel the consequences if Russia isn’t stopped.

Since early February, President Trump has been pushing for a negotiated peace in Ukraine. While some limited agreements—such as de-escalation in the Black Sea and avoiding strikes on energy infrastructure—have been made, a full ceasefire remains out of reach.
